Dr. Nussaibah Younis is a Resident Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East. She is a Middle East expert who specializes in Iraqi politics and the Islamic State. Her book Invasion to ISIS: Iraq, State Weakness and Foreign Policy is due to be published later this year.
Before joining the Atlantic Council, Dr. Younis was Senior Research Associate at the Project on Middle East Democracy, a research and advocacy group based in Washington DC, where she directed research programs as well as conducting her own research. Dr. Younis was previously an International Security Program Research Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Dr. Younis is a regular commentator on Middle East affairs, she has given numerous TV and radio interviews on the BBC, Voice of America, and Al Jazeera among others. She has published op-eds in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Guardian.
Dr. Younis started her career working with a start-up brand strategy consultancy in London that reached enormous international success. She completed her BA (Joint Honors) at Oxford University in Modern History and English, and her MA and PhD in the International Relations of the Middle East at the University of Durham in the United Kingdom.
